A small independent imprint with a long memory.
Cassaro Publishing publishes historical fiction and memoir rooted in Sicily and the immigrant crossing — stories of what families keep, what they are forced to bury, and the patient work of setting it right.
The imprint is named for a Sicilian born in Caccamo, in the hills above Palermo, who crossed to America as a boy and did not expect to be written about. We publish the I Veri series as DM Matthews, and standalone fiction and family story under Donna Matthews.

The Gabellotto’s Daughter, the first novel in the I Veri series, is out now — in eBook and paperback, with signed copies available.
Sicily, 1873. A gabellotto is found dead on a church bench at dawn with a black river stone set in each open palm, and an entire town agrees — without one word spoken aloud — to have seen nothing at all. His daughter is seventeen. She will spend the next thirty years answering that stone.
